Mauro Gatti and his house of constant fun
Sometimes art is not about complexity and multi structured design. But about an ability of graphic design to cheer people up and bring them smiles.
"Smile is the easiest and cheapest way to be happy", — says the illustrator Mauro Gatti. He finds a simple happiness in everyday life and things around him and translates it to his fans. Mauro is not searching for a deep and sacred subtext in art nor is he chasing the complex philosophical ideas, which are the trend of the last 5-10 years. He smiles himself and makes everyone around smile too.

Just have a look at these stickers with the title Mini l-Friends! And having applied a little of motion magic, they become alive.
Or for example the illustration Chicken revenge... Who would ever think of putting a chicken into a bomber and make it attack us with their egg-bombs? Of course it could be only a person with such a keen sense of humor as Mauro Gatti has.
Well anyways, sometimes you can find truly philosophical artworks among Mauro's illustrations. Let's have a look on the project consisting of three pictures You are what you love. The author himself alleges with all the seriousness, that he has depicted have himself, because he knows no one better than himself. And the most of all in the world he loves nature, pizza and pugs. Well of course, what can ever be worshiped more? :)
Such simplicity of art and thought, regardless the seeming primitivism, is sure to have some goal and is very reasonable. As the practice shows it is approved by lots of clients and Mauro's followers. It is also proved by a very respectable list of his clients such as Disney, MTV, Nike and Nickelodeon. Doubtless, it might seem that such excessive cheerfulness might turn into infantilism and light mindedness. But among Mauro's works there are such pictures that prove the contrary and he finds the way to apply his kindness and humanity to illustrate the events that have nothing to do with his habitual mood of smiles. For example his poster supporting those who suffered from the earthquake in Japan. Once again, it is very simple, but it strikes deep inside and excites the feeling of compassion and empathy.
Mauro is one of the first Italian illustrators who was contacted by the people from Line messenger to create "the most Italian smiles and emoticons to express our mood, temper and emotions".
Together with the animation designers of his company Mutado, Mauro works not only on stickers, illustrations and other graphic miracles, they also design the big ad campaigns using motion design. One of such projects is a short movie for Toyota Auto Biographies.
It is amazing how easy and fast the author finds the way to wake up all the kind and positive in our minds. I can't speak for everyone, but having looked through a lot of his illustrations and animated videos, my mood remained cheerful for the rest of the day. No wonder that all his life love and pleasant keen humor he decided to put together in a small but absolutely incredible book Super Best Friends. In the annotation it is said that "...the book is written [or to be more specific — drawn] to celebrate the most exceptional ones and will throw you in a magic world of big smiles..." And I bet you will be super surprised once you see these best friends he means!
Of course, they belong together as well as we can't do without them.
To sum it all up, I would like to wish everyone to sometimes look at this world in Mauro Gatti's way: happily, courageously and ironically. For the smiles make the whole world brighter and you mood better. And yes, we also would like to remind, of course with Mauro's help, that Christmas and New Years are on their way! ;)
